Reconstruction and Improvement of Tuen Mun Road

Maunsell AECOM (MCAL) has been awarded by Highways Department a Design and Construction Consultancy for Reconstruction and Improvement of Tuen Mun Road. This appointment follows from Maunsell’s successful completion of the investigation consultancy for the Project.
This consultancy assignment involves detailed design and construction supervision of the reconstruction and improvement of the existing Tuen Mun Road from Tsuen Wan to Tuen Mun totaling about 15.5km with a project estimate over $2.8 billion. The works involve reconstruction and realignment of the existing at-grade sections to current expressway standard with provision of a full hard shoulder, modification and stabilization of affected slopes, widening of 9 vehicular bridges/viaducts, reconstruction of 3 footbridges and extension of a number of subways, underpasses and box culverts, provision of TCSS system, noise mitigation measures and fire fighting system. The major challenge of this assignment is how to execute the works safely without affecting the traffic along Tuen Mun Road. The project will need to be executed under a fast-track programme and tender invitation for the first construction contract is expected in the 1st Quarter of 2007.
